ANGLAHI EXPLOITS’ 2019 VENTURE AIMS TO INSPIRE AND IGNITE THE FILIPINO SPIRIT THROUGH 12 MILLION x ANGLAHI FEST
“Of all the ASEAN countries, the Philippines has the highest degree of emigration. About 100 million Filipinos live in the Philippines. An additional 12 million live overseas.”
- The Asean Miracle: A Catalyst for Peace, Written by Kishore Mahbubani & Jeffrey Sng, Published 2017
In response to this reality, Anglahi Exploits aims to lift up Filipinos living abroad and fuel a sense of pride within them. Having hosted past productions such as “Rizal, Atbp.,” an original musical play that addressed questions about the Filipino identity through the life of Philippine national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, Anglahi Exploits strives to continue to raise awareness and educate people about Filipino history, culture, and traditions.
Following last year’s successful production of "12 Million: A Glimpse into the Filipino Diaspora,” Anglahi Exploits is excited for this year’s venture aimed to inspire and ignite the Filipino spirit: "12 Million x Anglahi Fest.”
This year’s two-fold event promises to be more immersive and experiential. “Anglahi Fest” will be an outdoor experience of Filipino culture through food, music, arts, dance, and more. And onstage, ”12 Million” will bring into perspective the reality of what overseas Filipinos face on a daily basis. This production hopes to inspire the Filipino diaspora to lift up their race by being positive influences to the respective places they now call their “home away from home.”
Written and directed by Jed Fillarca, one of the scriptwriters for Rizal ATBP., and with original songs and compositions, including those of noted composer/producer Victor Nino Salazar, “12 Million” is an artistic collaboration of songwriters, actors, and musicians from the Filipino Diaspora.
Proceeds of last year's production helped to construct Pinnacle Village’s Multi-Purpose Hall, a creative space to hold programs, activities and events that encourage creativity and community amongst the growing Filipino-American community in California.
This year, the journey continues with the challenge to build and renovate the surrounding areas of the Pinnacle Village Multi-Purpose Hall. In the coming years, we dream to build more community centers like this in different cities throughout the U.S. to better serve Filipino-Americans by providing a space for those searching for common ground and a way to connect to their roots to convene.
Celebrate Filipino-American History Month this October as we go beyond our past, explore our present realities, and discover the future we can create as the Filipino diaspora.
Excerpts of “12 Million” will be shown on October 13 in the Bay Area.
“12 Million x Anglahi Fest” will be held on October 20 & 27 at Pinnacle Village in Los Angeles.
